Understanding what lies beneath the skin is what separates a generic sculpt from a living character. In this project, I’ve documented the layer-by-layer construction of the human head, created during Ryan Kingslien’s anatomy mentorship.
Skeletal Foundation: Sculpted from a sphere. Focus on proportions and primary bony landmarks that define the head's overall architecture.
Muscular Layer: Facial écorché. Studying the insertion points and mechanics of the muscles of expression and mastication. This stage sets the dynamics for future facial expressions.
Fat Compartments: The final layer before the skin. Working with deep and superficial fat structures to create soft tissue volumes and lay the foundation for likeness.
